Hello (In English)
Hello
Welcome friends from far and near, you have just landed into whimsical world of troll boy (=peikonpoika) Peikonpoika keeps his lair in Scandinavian forest, under a giant toadstool in my backyard and he’s very curious and kind.
Peikonpoika is inspired by natural materials, walks in the forest, Scandinavian design, forest flora and fauna. Linen, cotton, wood and wool are core materials in our collections. Sewing, embroidery and appliqué most loved techniques.
My craft-saga started some six years ago, while pregnant with my first child. I was rummaging through my parents attic for memories from childhood (toys, books…) when I found an unfinished embroidery work. It was a small table cloth and had been left alone for many many years. The next day it was finished. When I was ironing the linen I felt so proud, I had accomplished something. That moment new-found passion for crafts started to emerge.
Then in early 2006 Etsy came along and, well… I found Japanese Zakka! There’s always been a special place for ‘all things little and cute’ in my heart (and my room, and my cupboards…) Japanese aesthetics, eye for detail and usage of natural materials spoke to me gently and here’s how I started my discovery in the wonderful world of crafts.
During my journey I have met talented and kind people around the world, found amazing handmade creations, picked up new skills and rekindled old ones. I’m a mother of three wonderful children, owner of Peikonpoika and Beloved shops and co-writer of Pellavahelma blog. And I like what I do!
I’m dreaming of travelling to Japan (I might need to take a cargo container with me tough) learning to embrace slow(er) living and enjoying the nature surrounding our family.
Entries in Peikkola-blog are usually in Finnish, but encouraged by the blog tour of Kajsa’s ‘Scandinavian Stitches’ (in November 2010) I will be posting both in English and Finnish. And who knows, maybe you stay around little longer and follow where the troll kids’ path is taking us. Entries in English are easy to find using tag & category ‘Hello’.
So happy to have you here, hope you enjoy your visit and maybe say hello. I love reading your comments!
XO,
-päivi, and troll kids
